WELCOME

My name is Tara Czapla. I am a board certified lactation consultant (IBCLC) & a mother of six. I would love to help you meet your breastfeeding goals...
I offer in-person and telehealth visits covering:
-nipple pain
-latching
-supply
-bottle feeding
-returning to work
-prenatal prep
-oral function/tongue-tie assessment
-weaning & more
I LOVE to meet prenatally. It's my fav, because we can go over all the things: concerns, health history, prepping for a solid start--all before there is a crying baby in the room... Of course, most of my clients are seen after baby arrives--that's great too. :)
I consider myself a no-judgement lactation consultant. This is your baby, these are your breasts & your goals. If that includes bottles, pacifiers, formula, etc.--no judgement here. I am all about giving parents information and they decide what is best. I have used pacifiers, mixed feeding with formula & bottles myself. I also a big believer that mental health is #1! If the feeding plan isn't sustainable, then it is not a good plan. Let's figure out what is best for you and your family....& is sustainable.
Clients have access to me through text support for one week after their visit. They also have access to rhythmic movement and oral exercise videos for easy continued learning.
I do take insurance through The Lactation Network. Listed below are my cash-pay rates if your insurance does not contract with The Lactation Network. I also provide a superbill upon request that can be submitted to your insurance for possible reimbursement (not guaranteed). There are also payment options (spreading it out over 4 payments, interest free).

what is an "IBCLC?"
How is it different than other breastfeeding helpers?

The IBCLC certification is the highest level of lactation credentialing. It is internationally recognized & takes years to obtain.
To become an IBCLC, one must have at least 1,000 clinical hours, 90 hours of lactation-specific courses, 14 college-level health courses (anatomy & physiology/statistics) and also pass a rigorous board exam. We also are required to do 75 hours of continued education courses to recertify every 5 years.
Unfortunately, anyone can call themselves a "lactation consultant," and some credentials are essentially a weekend class. It is important to know their level of training & certification. While all promotion of breastfeeding is great, just know that when you are seeing an IBCLC, you are getting the highest level of lactation support.

additional training
Oral Habilitation Masterclass:
31 hour course lead by myofunctional therapist/IBCLC, Jennifer Tow, BFA, MA, IBCLC, LMT, CSOM. This essentially gives us the ability to see the baby more holistically, assess oral function more deeply, and show parents specific oral exercises based on that assessment. There are only two IBCLCs in our region who have this training. This is a great asset if oral dysfunction/tongue tie release is being considered.
Professional flange fitting:
I drove to Portland, OR to go to the Flange FITS 9 hour training- I am THAT passionate about flanges ;)
Flanges can make a BIG difference in comfort, milk output and avoiding damage to the breast tissue. I offer flange fitting visits that can really zero in on which exact size and shape of flange is correct for you. Your areolas will thank you later... This is the first evidence-based approach to custom flange fittings.
I have multiple shapes and exact sizes of flanges that we swap out in real time to zero in on your exact flange. We watch for sprays of milk increasing or decreasing. Each breast can even require different shapes or sizes! This is a truly customized experience. This often helps not only in comfort with pumping, but increased supply output.

About Me

I was born and raised in the Pacific Northwest. I have six children (ages 5 to 20). I had breastfeeding struggles with 5 out of my 6 kids-- & that journey is what started my path to becoming an IBCLC. Years of studying while my little ones were asleep, hundreds of clinical hours and a board exam later, & here we are...
I am detail oriented and love continued learning. I tend to be a bit on the "clinical" side (love me some scrubs and spreadsheets), but also have a crunchy side by default.
Lactation is such an amazing field- it is so primal, so messy & so beautiful. I think that we can reconnect to our ancestral knowledge as women & be empowered to care for ourselves and our families.
